YouTube has added a new element that will give users a way to add update notes to their YouTube clips - which could save you from having to re-upload an entire video for the sake of a smaller change or correction.
Called, incidentally, ‘Corrections’, the new process will display an info card teaser in the video playback, to signal when and where a correction note has been added to a clip.
Previously, the only way to correct an error in a published video was to remove it, edit it, and re-upload it. The old solution created more problems than it solved, due to the fact all watch time and engagement metrics were lost in the process.
Instead, if YouTube creators decide to address their errors at all, they usually do so by adding a note in the description or the comment section.
That’s why YouTube is introducing a new feature named “corrections” that lets creators easily add more obvious corrections. After a video has been uploaded, creators can add corrections that will appear as infocards in the top right-hand corner of a video at the relevant timestamp (but only, it seems, for the first correction in any given video). Viewers can then click on the card to expand the correction notes in the video’s description.
Creators could also use the option to direct viewers to newer clips on the same subject. So if you’ve posted a popular tutorial video on, say, a certain app or device, you could add a note that it’s since been updated via the Corrections marker, where you could also point users to your newer video on the topic.
It’s a relatively small, but potentially valuable addition, which could facilitate varying functionality in your YouTube process.
